Channing Daughters Pinot Grigio, Long Island, NY 2014
“Channing Daughters is a winery on the South Fork of Long Island, New York, making exuberant, omnibus wines that defy categorization.” (Portland Press Herald, January 2016). Alive with aromas and flavors of tree fruit like pears, citrus fruit with white flowers, spice and a salty, chalky minerality. This lovely dry white wine is clean, alluring and focused with loads of personality and a silken mouthfeel.
Skylark “Red Belly” Red Rhone Blend, Northern CA, 2013
John Lancaster is the co-proprietor of Skylark Wine Company, his passion for wine grew while working in the restaurant industry. As the Wine Director of the wildly eclectic Cypress Club, he was recognized by the Wine Spectator for his wine list. For the past eleven years, John has been the Wine Director at the James Beard award winning “Boulevard” Restaurant.
Opaque in the glass. Aromas of dark fruits like blackberry, boysenberry and black plum, with a whiff of violet and black pepper for lift. The palate is juicy, with layers of fruit coating the entire palate. The velvety texture is balanced by earth and spice components.
Acumen Suavignon Blanc, Napa, CA 2014
This delicious and approachable Sauvignon Blanc starts with aromas of white flowers, orange zest, and lemongrass. In the mouth it continues with flavors of lemon bars, apricots, gooseberries, kumquats, fresh grapefruit, and river rocks giving way to fresh and vibrant acidity on the long and persistent finish. We love this wine with fresh shellfish of all kinds, or simply by itself.
Onx “The Reckoning” Syrah Blend, Paso Robles, 2013
Syrah 62%, Petite Syrah 19%, Cabernet Sauvignon 13%, Malbec 6%
Exuberant, explosive and flashy, bordering on flamboyant. The nose parades layers of bold aromatics that are unveiled over the course of the glass, Asian spices, plum sauce, nutmeg and clove lead into toasted pistachio, vanilla wafers, pound cake and huckleberry sauce. The palate is rewarded with a silky, creamy texture and mouthcoating tannins. The plush, weighty finish lingers and lingers with touches of kirsch, crème de cassis and plum. 93pts Wine Enthusiast/92pts Wine Advocate/91pts Vinous
