Brooding, mysterious and sensuous, loaded with decadent date, raisin and mulberry flavours, with hints of cedar and tapenade. Smooth, luscious tannins, formidable weight and potency, and awesome length. A real classic!
Decant if possible and sip on its own or with roast fillet of beef.
Château Maucoil has a long history stretching back to Roman times, when the property was used as an army fortress. Its most-recent incarnation began in 2013, when Château Maucoil was acquired by Lavau, a local family wine negociant. The estate spans 37 hectares, most of which is employed to grow a wide range of traditional grapes for red Châteauneuf du Pape. In 2014, Château Maucoil became certified biodynamic.
Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a world-famous wine from France’s baking southern Rhone Valley. It is one of the country’s oldest wine appellations, dating from 1929. Although fully 13 varieties are permitted for use in (red) Châteauneuf, in practice most producers lean heavily on Grenache, with support from Syrah and Mourvèdre. Châteauneuf is the world’s most prestigious Grenache-based wine.
